Assessment of Groundwater Quality using Multivariate Statistical Methods at Nagadeepa Area in Badulla District, Sri Lanka

The study area, Nagadeepa is situated in Badulla District within the dryer parts of country. Groundwater main drinking water source area. was carried out from 2013 to 2016 and objective examine chemical status pollution levels by examining 25 quality parameters namely Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Pb Mo, Cr, Cd, Mg, Hg, As, Al, Zn, Se, Cl-, F-, NO3-, HCO3-, SO42-, PO43-, DO, pH, temperature, electrical conductivity hardness 28 wells. results factor analysis indicated that conductivity, alkalinity, hardness, Calcium, Fluoride, Cr Cd have a strong impact on compared categories moderate weak loadings. namely; Na, As Se Water Level, Cl, pH based loadings PC analysis. SO22- K, PO4, Al Temperature, PO43-. Analysis that; (i) significant positive correlation with Ca2+ (ii) only (iii) Hardness shows (iv) Fluoride has Mo2+ (v) Na+ Mg2+. Cluster indicated, cluster 1 less polluted 9 wells, 2 moderately 11 3 highly 7 4 very one well. Factor dissolved oxygen, chloride, sulfate are major factors affect water. In majority sampling coefficient revealed geogenic nature. 29% wells unsuitable for purposes.
